Mary Brooks' Story

In March 2012 our Mary Brooks, just shy of three weeks old, had emergency surgery after being diagnosed with intestinal malrotation and midgut volvulus, a congenital birth defect that affects approximately 1 in 500 infants.

Mary Brooks' life-threatening ordeal changed our lives forever; we're unspeakably grateful for her miraculous healing and the outpouring of love we received in that time.

Our fervent prayer is that we can spread the word about this potentially deadly birth defect and help even one family avoid the heartache of illness and loss. Even more so, we hope to share with others our story of healing - in every sense - in the midst of hurt. The Lord worked a miracle in each of us through Mary Brooks' journey.

For more on MB's experience, read about her arrival, emergency, diagnosis, surgery, hospital stay, recovery and discharge. For details about intestinal malrotation, see here.

If you've survived (or are muddling through) something just plain awful, you can read about my own recovery from Mary Brooks' ordeal here and here. Please don't hesitate to reach out if I can encourage you to keep your head above water in a difficult time.

We praise the Lord every day for our miracle girl.

Let all that I am praise the Lord;

   with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name.
Let all that I am praise the Lord;

    may I never forget the good things he does for me.
He forgives all my sins

   and heals all my diseases.
He redeems me from death

   and crowns me with love and tender mercies.
He fills my life with good things.

   My youth is renewed like the eagle's!
-Psalm 102:1-5
